abstract
The following abstract is taken from the introductory paragraph of the thesis. "The Duke of Argyll published in July, 1880, a book entitled "The Reign of Law" in which he pointed out the analogy between legislation and invention, and foreshadowed the idea that the principle of attraction is a sociological and educational principle. In 1883 L.F. Ward published his "Dynamic Sociology" in which he independently points out the same analogy. In the same connection Mr. Ward discusses to some extent the universality of the principle of attraction. In the last chapter of his "Applied Sociology" he indicates the possibility of making labor attractive and discusses attractive legislation. In the closing chapter of his "Dynamic Sociology" he indicates the possibility of applying the attractive method to education. We hope to carry the investigation with respect to legislation and education somewhat further."
